Vodacom best amongst its peers for quality of leadership voice through reporting. Remuneration and leadership succession strong, but a compliance focus to board and governance issues. The company presents a clear purpose based on the values of serving customers and empowering society. A consistent focus through the report on delivering this brand promise, with good context given by leadership around key issues such as speed and reliability of broadband, backed up by detailed, though imbalanced reporting on performance.

Reporting on its engagement with governments and outcomes/progress in the legislative environment, especially re SIM card registration and other external societal threats, is generally respectful, balanced, transparent and informative.  Vodacom discusses customer ID protection as a key risk and a ‘hot topic’ and has a detailed and proactive response, but its response to #datamustfall is more reactive, with no acknowledgement of differential pricing between rich and poor.
